About Us

We are dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in the hemophilia/HIV community by providing programs and services that provide emotional, financial and educational assistance and support. We advocate and create awareness to promote and protect access to healthcare for the bleeding disorder community.  We bring together individuals and families to promote the sharing of experiences and information.

Since our inception in 1967, we have helped the community survive the complicated world of living with a bleeding disorder.  We are the only such organization in Arizona.  We strive to meet our mission by offering various educational services and programs to community members in all stages of life.    We evaluate what needs are unmet and develop programs to meet those needs.  For example, we found that there is a need to provide families with a forum for learning, sharing and supporting one another and as a result the monthly support groups were established.  During these sessions, which are offered in both English and Spanish, families are provided with a safe environment for discussion regarding treatment, access to care, quality of life, and therapy satisfaction/concerns.

With regard to therapies, the association has developed a strong partnership with the Hemophilia Treatment Center (HTC) where their mission is to promote a healthy lifestyle and preventative care.  After careful analysis of our programs we found that there was a need to strengthen the role that the association needs to play with regard to advocacy for health-related issues.  This can be accomplished through building relationships with and providing education to legislators and to monitor legislation that may have a direct impact on the community’s concerns. Through our efforts, the Governor has declared March to be Hemophilia Awareness Month.

Our comprehensive program is designed to work with individuals and families of all ages. Camp HONOR is the only summer camp program for children with bleeding disorders and it is an American Campers Association accredited camp.    Part of the camp program is to empower young adults to become the leaders in the community therefore we developed the Youth Leadership Program.

Another program that is offered is DNA testing.  We provide funding for women whose insurance won’t cover testing to determine if they are carriers of hemophilia.  The Arizona Hemophilia Association understands that this disorder is costly to families and because of the huge expense, we provide families with emergency financial assistance for basic necessities.

This agency is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for all those in the bleeding disorder community.  This is accomplished through the programs and services that have been established. We are committed to continuing to grow with the community and to listen to their needs and establish programs that will continue to enhance the quality of life for all those in the bleeding disorder community.
